Sun Certified Business Component Developer

I attained the Sun Certified Business Component Developer (SCBCD) certification a number of weeks ago. I am aware that certifications are somewhat controversial, here are my thoughts about them:
- I always liked the Sun exams because they try to test your knowledge in a reasonable way, emphasis is on the concepts.
- I find it easier to to study the details of a framework in depth if I have a goal. The certification process can be such a goal for me.
- I worked with EJB3 and JPA before, but studying for a certification forces you to know about the details.
- As a Java consultant, I have to know what is in the exam because it is part of my job knowing such things.
On the other hand:
- A certificate does not tell anything about coding skills or problem solving skills.
- The Sun certificates are obviously biased towards Sun technology.
Some of the resources I used:
- “Enterprise Javabeans 3.0” (O’Reilly). Although the book is easier to read, it is not always accurate.
- “EJB3 in Action” (Manning). This is the most accurate book about the subject. When I found a discrepancy between the two books, this one was always correct.
- The official specs.
In the end, I am glad to have done it and can only recommend it if you are somewhat interested in Java EE.
