MoneyTwizz, a personal finance utility.
MoneyTwizz is an application that lets you plan your budget in a fast and efficient way. It provides the means to plan your future expense and income transactions and to keep the planning synchronized with your bank statements. You do not have to spend hours entering the bank statement data and assign all expenses to categories, or trying to find where you mistyped some value so that the end amount is a couple of cents different from the bank statement. The goal of MoneyTwizz is the planning aspect, not the bookkeeping aspect.
I wrote this application in order to try out a number of new idea's and techniques. First of all, I wanted to try out a new technical platform to develop applications. In this case MoneyTwizz was written in Rebol. A very nice cross-platform programming language which has a lot of the qualities of Lisp with an important difference: Rebol was written to create practical programs that run in a windowing environment. Practically this means that there is an embedded API to control the display, this makes it possible to create GUI applications, not only by using stock controls as in most gui libraries, but by having full control over the display. There are not many tools that can compete with Rebol in this area. Since Rebol is cross platform, only Java is a competitor with the Swing library.
